Alfred Marquis Obituary, Alfred Marquis has passed away joy anchie, August 6, 2023 Alfred Marquis Obituary, Death – After disembarking from the boat, the squad provided covering fire and placed flags to direct soldiers, ammunition, and supplies to the shore. They then had to clear the beach of hostiles until the landing ships arrived. Due to their intensive training in advanced first aid, escape and evasion, unarmed fighting, and Jeeps and amphibious DUKWs, naval commandos were regarded the greatest. The Pacific War section of the Australian War Memorial houses one of these relics. The wall has a Royal Australian Navy ensign with my grandfather’s name in the upper right corner: “To Cappy.”From RAN Commando ‘B'” was written in black ink in the flag’s lower left canton. Grandpa remembered when his firm sent the Salvation Army this flag to thank Captain Clifford “Cappy” Radford for his help at Tarakan. After returning from Japan after the atomic blasts in late 1945, he reported his experiences. Grandpa joined the Fleet Air Arm and worked as an aircraft technician on HMAS Sydney during his 1953–1954 tour to Korea after leaving the Navy. In addition to his philanthropic activities, he supported those he loved through the hardest circumstances and never wavered. His wisdom and guidance guided them through life’s challenges in the storm. He had a wonderful ability to listen without judging, and his advise was always based on empathy and understanding. His intellectual curiosity and desire to learn about other cultures and ideas kept him in school throughout his life. His passion for learning inspired his friends to pursue their own intellectual pursuits. Conversations with him were always enlightening and led to reflective arguments that left an unforgettable effect on those who met him. We get comfort in knowing he lived a good life before dying. Those whose lives he touched will continue on his love, compassion, and empathy after his death. Even though he is gone, his spirit will guide and inspire us to be better and more compassionate.
