Seigen Sensei Obituary,Death – We were saddened to hear the news that Esaka Seigen Sensei passed away on July 29, 2023. He was 97 years old. Our thoughts and prayers are with his loved ones, including his family. We would like to offer our thanks and take this opportunity to think on the humanity that he displayed for us. We are left with profound sadness at the news of Sensei Esaka’s demise, and in his honor, we would like to honor all of the memories we shared with him and continue to follow in his footsteps. Hanshi Esaka Seigen is a direct disciple of both the 20th Soke Kono Hyakuren and the 21st Soke Fukui Torao. Esaka Seigen has the rank of 10th Dan and is a Hanshi.

Up to the year 2021, Esaka Sensei held the position of president of the Ippan Shadanhoujin Seitou Seiryu Muso Jikiden Eishin Ryu Iaido Kokusai Renmei. In 1956, Esaka Sensei began his studies in iaido under the instruction of Fukui Torao. 1958 was the year he was awarded his first dan. In 1976, he was promoted to the rank of Hanshi, and in 1991, he was given the title of 10th dan. Many people consider Esaka Sensei to be among the most skilled iaidoka currently alive.

Esaka Sensei fills a very important role not just for our club but also for the many other clubs that he has instructed in the past. The expertise that he exudes with relation to iaido is one of a kind and serves as an invaluable source of enrichment for us as we travel along our journey. The warm and genuine way in which he interacts with other people is at least as outstanding as his other achievements. His unrestricted participation in Iaido groups located all over the world is another aspect that cannot be taken for granted and cannot be praised strongly enough.
