California: Brett Douglass Obituary, San Luis Obispo County Sheriff Has Passed Away joy anchie, August 9, 2023 Brett Douglass Obituary, Death – An official statement reporting the passing of an inmate has been distributed by the Sheriff’s Office. An inmate who had been moved to a Hospice Care facility in Fresno County in June and who passed away on August 23 due to the effects of a life-limiting illness has passed away. On March 16th, 2019, Brett Douglass, age 46, was taken into custody and booked. Before he was taken into detention, a cancer diagnosis had already been made. While he was in the custody of the San Luis Obispo County Sheriff’s Office, he went to the Sierra Vista Regional Medical Center to undergo treatment for his cancer. The Sheriff’s Office had applied for Douglass to receive Compassionate Release in order to have him released from detention pending the determination of his terminal condition. The severity of his criminal past, which included charges of being a felon in possession of a handgun and possessing a machine gun, led to the denial of his request for approval, which had been expected. On June 23, he was moved to the Hospice Care Unit of the Grand Villa Congregate Living Health Facility in Clovis, which is located in Fresno County. However, he technically remained in the custody of the Sheriff’s Office throughout his stay there. On August 23, 2018, as Douglass was waiting for his trial to begin in San Luis Obispo Superior Court, he passed away while under the care of a physician. Because of this, his passing is considered to have occurred while he was in detention. His family was able to spend some time with him before he passed away, and his next of kin have been informed of the situation. Obituary
