Dennis Farrell Obituary,  Death – Dennis Dr. M, of Hampton Bays, died quietly at home surrounded by family after a year with pancreatic cancer. His age was 71. Dr. Farrell fulfilled his childhood passion of being a large animal veterinarian after earning his bachelor degree from Penn and his PhD from Turin. His passion for horses inspired him to open a Montauk-to-Manhattan private practice. Dr. Farrell was a remarkable veterinarian with over four decades of experience.

He taught and mentored budding veterinarians and the equestrian community as “Doc”. He happily served as the NYPD mounted unit veterinarian for 37 years in addition to serving private clients. He aided any animal and family in need throughout his life and practice. Every animal he handled felt his love and care as a talented veterinarian. Besides horseback riding, Dr. Farrell loved water and the outdoors.

He spent his youth lifeguarding in Point Lookout, New York, instructing sports, and for the past many years kayaking with his wife on Shinnecock Bay. Dr. Farrell excelled academically and athletically. He played football, lacrosse, and wresting at Penn. He was a decorated UPenn athlete who lettered in three sports. Dr. Farrell learned Italian in Northern Italy while studying veterinary medicine.

Dr. Farrell’s love of Italian culture and fluency in Italian surprised many throughout his life. His family was his greatest love, along with horses and water. A proud husband, father, and grandfather, he spent his life caring for his family. Dr. Farrell is survived by his wife, Doreen Farrell (Madden), and his children and their spouses, Dennis and Joanne Farrell, Sean and Sabrina Farrell, Brandon Farrell, Patrick and Victoria Hoehn, Steven and Christina Cotsalas.
