Tuesday, August 1, 2023, at the age of 71, Garry passed away after a brief battle with illness. In addition to his son, he left behind his brothers and sisters. His funeral will be held at Treswithian Downs Crematorium on August 16, 2023 at noon. Only send family members flowers. Donations can assist in funding Cancer Research. Raymond Mitchell was born in Brandon, Manitoba, on May 24, 1953, to Raymond and Isabella Mitchell; he attended JR Reid and Vincent Massey schools. He used to pitch a no-hitter as a left-handed pitcher in the Brandon Sun Sports Section when he played minor league baseball. In 1973, he graduated from the School of Psychiatric Nursing Education Program and worked at the Brandon Mental Health Centre until its closure in 1998. He was instrumental in facilitating the transition of psychiatric services to the new Adult Psychiatry Centre. He had a distinguished 35-year career and was committed to the concept of recovery as well as multi-disciplinary conferencing and planning to ensure that clients/patients received the best care possible. Garry exemplified commitment, integrity, and professionalism, and he instilled psychiatric nursing with a sense of pride. He was awarded the Excellence in Psychiatric Nursing Award in 2007. Prior to Garry’s birth, his parents, sibling Bob, and sister Sharon all passed away. His wife, Jo-Ann, and their children Kalynn (Gavin), Bryan, and Michael (Carla) survive him. On the Mitchell side, he leaves behind his sister-in-law Liz, Ashleigh and Kyle, Jeff and Meghan, and their respective families. Marshall, Dan (Donna) with Kari, Sarah, and Brad, as well as their families, and Mike (Beth) with Amanda and Steve, Nikki and Brett, and Mike, as well as their families, also survive him. Garry is survived by his Aunty Dorothy, Steve, Bruce (Karyn), Uncle Chuck (Roberta), Barb (Eric), John (Lorna), Heather (Dave), Cathy, Auntie Gayle, Lori (Eric), Les, Doug (Michelle), and Calgary families.
