Gary Dwayne Harrell Obituary, Death – On Friday, the Marion County Coroner’s Office made public the name of the armed man who was shot and killed by an officer in Indianapolis as he fled from a traffic check. The officer who shot and killed him was from the Indianapolis Police Department. At the time of the incident, the officer was on duty and performing his duties. It was determined that the person in question is Gary Dwayne Harrell, who is 49 years old.

Harrell was pulled over for driving dangerously on Thursday morning about 9:40 by an officer who was on duty in the north-eastern area of the city. According to a statement that was made by the police department, Harrell stepped out of his car and “began verbally engaging with the officer.” The officer had just emerged from his patrol vehicle at that very moment. According to the statement, “The driver then went back to the driver’s seat of his vehicle, disregarding the officer’s verbal commands,” and then he sprinted from his vehicle while clutching a pistol in his hand.

During the brief pursuit, the officer reportedly issued many instructions to Harrell to stop before opening fire on him. This is according  to the police. According to the statement, the police offered medical treatment to Harrell until the arrival of the paramedics. Following that, he was transported to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead shortly after arrival. According to the police, it was unknown whether or not Harrell fired any rounds or pointed the gun in the direction of the cop who was pursuing him.
