Ireland: Art McRory Obituary, Former Tyrone manager Has Passed Away joy anchie, August 9, 2023 Art McRory Obituary, Death – The Dungannon Clarke’s clubman was in command of the Red Hands for a total of nearly 25 years, spanning three separate tenures. McRory is credited with laying the groundwork for the modern success of Tyrone football, having made a significant contribution during his three distinct stints in the position. The Dungannon Clarke’s clubman led the Red Hands for nearly two decades in total. In 1986, he led Tyrone to their first-ever All-Ireland final, which they lost to Kerry. A former player for Tyrone, he began his managerial career with the county’s minor squad, which won the 1973 All-Ireland championship. He led the senior team to five Ulster SFC championships, in 1984, 1986, 1995, 1996, and 2001. And he was in charge, alongside Eugene McKenna, when the county reached the Sam Maguire Cup final for the second time, succumbing to Dublin in a controversial matchup. Former Red Hand actor Peter Canavan praised McRory’s intelligence. “Sometimes people say that meeting your heroes can taint your impression, but that was not the case with Art,” he stated. “He left so many people better off, not only for having played under him but also for having known him. “When you visited Art, in addition to receiving sage advice, he was a trustworthy confidant; he was a brilliant individual.” According to a tribute from Tyrone GAA, Mr. McRory was the man who revolutionized Tyrone football. Art McRory’s sudden demise after a long, well-lived life has left Dungannon, Tyrone, Ulster, and Ireland with a gnawing void, according to a statement. “Art’s achievements as a player, coach, manager, Club man, educator, developer, organizer, motivator, community activist, strategist, visionary, family man, and one of the most devoted teammates span seven decades and are simply unparalleled.”Simply put, Art revolutionized Tyrone GAA and improved the lives of tens of thousands of people, including those who came before us, those who are still here, and those who will come after us. That is a true legacy. “However, despite all this, the bounty of Art the man is what we cherished. The qualities that endeared him to us all the most were his goodness, class, style, honor, dignity, integrity, selflessness, and, above all, decency. “Our deepest condolences go out to Colm, Ciaran, and Eva, to Art’s countless friends and colleagues, to the Gaels of Dungannon, and to everyone who ever had the good fortune to meet this extraordinary man. Without him, Tyrone is now a different and less desirable location.” His wife Helen died in February of this year, and he is survived by his children Colm, Ciaran, and Eva. Obituary
