Big John served as our longstanding equipment manager and was a man who lived and breathed for his job; yet, he was also so much more to so many people. We pray for his loved ones and those who were close to him. However, John was so much more than just the function of equipment manager that he held. He was well-liked by the people in the community, and he was a friend to a great number of people. He was also a source of motivation for the whole neighborhood. Because of his friendly nature, contagious laughter, and infectious grin, he was a treasured presence at McDonald’s. He had the extraordinary ability to make everyone feel welcome and respected, which helped to build a sense of brotherhood that went well beyond the confines of the playing field. Friends, teammates, coaches, and students alike are struggling to come to terms with the loss of a genuine pillar at this time as the news of his demise reverberates throughout the McD community. The legacy that John leaves behind is not only the devoted service he provided to the team, but also the indelible mark he left on the lives of many people. He exemplified the sense of togetherness and camaraderie that is characteristic of a tight-knit community such as McD. During this trying time, the McD football family has come together to mourn the passing of their close buddy.
