Jonathan Dimitriu Obituary, Death – Wes “Scoop” Nisker was a well-respected member of the Spirit Rock sangha. He was also a Buddhist meditation instructor, author of a book that became a best-seller, and standup Dharma comic. The news that he had passed away was shared with the community the previous night. He was a Buddhist and had received plaudits for his literature in addition to his profession as a television journalist and commentator.

We offer our condolences to the Nisker family and recognize the unavoidable reality that getting older, being ill, and eventually passing away are all natural parts of the aging process and life in general. Wes has been participating in Buddhist meditation for about half a century, and throughout that time, he has been taught by a number of different teachers located in both Asia and the United States.

He has spent the past 35 years independently facilitating meditation retreats and teaching courses on Buddhist philosophy and insight meditation, all of which he has done on his own. In addition to being a founding member and co-editor of the Buddhist journal “Inquiring Mind,” he was also the author of the books “Buddha’s Nature,” “The Big Bang, the Buddha, and the Baby Boom,” “Essential Crazy Wisdom,” and “Being Nature.” He also served as a founding member of the Buddhist journal “Inquiring Mind.” In addition to that, he was a member of the Spirit Rock Teachers Council for a period of time.
