Matthew Hare Obituary, Death The tragic death of a police officer from the Upstate region of South Carolina occurred early Wednesday morning when the officer was shot and killed in the line of duty. According to the Pickens County Coroner’s Office, 22-year-old Matthew Logan Hare was responding with another officer to an area of railway tracks on Allen Street when he was struck and killed. Hare worked for the Easley Police Department. The two officers were reportedly responding to a report of “a suicidal subject on the tracks,” according to the office of the coroner. Officials said that Officer Hare was killed by a train while he was attempting to remove the victim from the tracks while the train was moving. It was determined that he had passed away at the site.
