Michael Wilcox Obituary, Michael Wilcox has died joy anchie, August 7, 2023 Michael Wilcox Obituary, Death – A fatal collision involving an ambulance left a community in Starke County in mourning after a paramedic from that county was killed and another was critically injured. Michael Wilcox Sr., who performed many jobs as a first responder in the area, has left behind his family, including children who have chosen to follow in their father’s footsteps and become first responders. In memory of Michael Wilcox Sr., several of the flags flying in Starke County were lowered to half-staff.In addition to that, there was a procession of first responders from Starke county escorting him to the coroner and then again leading him to the funeral home. Both the emergency lights and sirens were turned on as Michael Wilcox Sr. and Brandy Salita, another Starke County EMT, responded to a call on Saturday afternoon before 3:30 central time. Along County Road 800 South, they were traveling in the eastbound direction. At that point, a car traveling in the opposite direction on County Road 700 East reached the junction, colliding with the side of the ambulance and causing it to flip over. Wilcox was determined to have passed away at the scene of the accident, and Salita was sent to the hospital in critical condition.
