Nicky Singer Obituary, Nicky Singer has passed away joy anchie, August 3, 2023 Nicky Singer Obituary, Death – Nicky was the second child of electronics engineer Geoffrey and physiotherapist, piano instructor, and homemaker Sheila (née King). Nicky was the second of Geoffrey and Sheila’s five children. Nicky was born in Chalfont St. Peter, Buckinghamshire, UK. The abrupt death of her father when she was 14 changed her life. Her education began at Queen Anne’s School in Caversham, Reading, and continued at Bristol University, where she studied English and graduated in 1978. Nicky earned first place in a story writing contest at six years old. Nicky started writing in the early 21st century. She wrote regularly, saying “writing is like breathing; if you don’t do it, you die a little.” At 17, she met James King-Smith, her brother’s classmate and barrister. Her brother knew James since elementary school. They moved to Brighton in 1983 after marrying, where James worked as a barrister. In 2015, Nicky and I met in a Brighton bookstore by happenstance. She stated she was writing a novel about Island during our chat. I was shocked to find that her publishers rejected the manuscript because it was “a quiet book.” Nicky, noted for her passion and focus, plans to self-publish her books. It impressed me so much that I offered to draw it. After receiving the novel, I fell in love with the story immediately, and I was overjoyed when Nicky agreed to allow me sketch 20 pages. Nicky emailed me “The Survival Game.” in 2018 after three years. I think this is her best novel. This gripping dystopian narrative follows a group of people forced to flee their homes by climate change. Nicky wrote with compassion and a desire to confront hard truths and safeguard vulnerable people and the earth. Her willingness to face hard truths also set her apart. James and their three children, Roland, Edmund, and Xavier, will only remember her after her death. Obituary
