NY United States: Fernielle Mary Mora Obituary, HMHS Graduate Has Passed Away joy anchie, August 9, 2023 Fernielle Mary Mora Obituary, Death – The news of the untimely death of Fernielle Mary Mora has left us in a state of profound grief. Last month, the body of Fernielle Mora, who had graduated from Harvey Milk High School (HMHS) and had been a member of the Hetrick-Martin Institute Youth in the past, was discovered in her residence in the Bronx. The circumstances surrounding her death have been referred to as “suspicious.” Fernielle was a student at HMHS over seven years ago, and the principal, Daphne Perrini, had great memories of her as a “larger-than-life personality who was wonderful, empathic, and silly. ” The sentiment expressed by Daphne is echoed by HMI, which says, “She made an indelible mark on all of us. She was so young, and she had so much potential. Fernielle was making efforts to establish a career as an advocate for LGBTQIA+ youngsters. You can view the GoFundMe page that has been established for Fernielle Mary Mora by visiting hmi.org/ferniellemora. If you would like to make a donation to help pay for her burial costs and provide assistance for her family while her mother fights cancer, please do so. Those of you who knew Fernielle, please join us in remembering the good times she gave us and the legacy she left behind. Fernielle, a much-loved trans woman of color, is just one of many transgender people in our society who continues to be subjected to attacks and excessive violence, which sadly, and at times fatally, results in their deaths. It is imperative that we keep speaking out against hateful legislation that is anti-LGBTQ and discriminatory, particularly when it is directed at transgender people. HMI will continue to provide a secure environment in which all young people are free to live their lives in an authentic manner and without fear, while also advocating the cause of transgender equality and joining the efforts of those fighting for transgender protections.
