Paula Entwisle Obituary, Life Member Of Former Club Chair & Hockey Chair has died

Paula Entwisle Obituary, Death – The news that Paula Entwisle has passed away after a courageous struggle with cancer this year has left us in a state of profound grief. Paula was a Hockey Player, Captain, and eventually Manager before she became an Honorary Life Member of the club, a past Chairperson of both the Club and the Hockey Committee, and a Chairperson of both positions.

Following her retirement from hockey management, Paula then routinely enjoyed spectating, particularly when her son Rick played at Timperley Hockey Club. She always maintained close contact with so many of the players she encouraged and signposted to the club. Her son Rick played at Timperley Hockey Club. Paula’s guiding principle had always been to help others realize their full potential by being more courageous.

Setting higher goals for them, and giving them the opportunity and experiences they need to flourish. In more recent years, Paula has been spotted on Sunday mornings at our Junior Hockey training, where she can be seen encouraging and supporting her grandchildren in a manner somewhat dissimilar to how she does so herself. Paula relocated to Sale in 1966 to begin a career as a teacher.

She established herself in the community by working as a physical education teacher at Sale Girl’s Grammar School. Shortly after, she became a member of the Timperley Ladies Hockey Club, where she rose through the ranks to become the 1st XI Captain of the Timperley Ladies HC between 1972 and 1974 and the Ladies Hockey Chair between 1974 and 1980.

It was at the club where she met her adoring husband John, who has proven to be a vital confidant and source of support for her throughout her travels. When Paula had faith in something, nothing could stop her from connecting people, establishing a spirit of ‘can do’ attitude in others, and celebrating their accomplishments once they were completed.

After Paula stepped down as Chair of the Ladies Hockey Section, she continued to show her gratitude for the next generation of young female hockey players by establishing the “Paula Entwisle Trophy,” which is presented at the end of each season. This trophy is still in existence and continues to be awarded. A significant number of the trophy winners are still active members of the club; this serves as a constant reminder of how essential it is to invest in, advance, and recognize our younger players.
