Randy Lutz Obituary, Hummelstown Pennsylvania, Randy Lutz Has Died joy anchie, August 6, 2023 Randy Lutz Obituary, Death – We regret to inform you that on January 12, 2021, Randall Lutz, who received the 2018 Wally Russell Professional Mentoring Award, passed away. We extend our condolences to the many people in mourning. Randy Lutz was the Santa Fe Opera’s director of properties for many years. He also mentored a number of theatrical industry professionals. While still a high school student in Mount Carmel, Pennsylvania, Lutz started acting. At Bloomsburg University, he initially majored in pre-medicine before switching to technical theater. Lutz started working as a stage carpenter at the Santa Fe Opera in 1979. He held the jobs of head properties run crew chief and deputy run crew chief at SFO in addition to his work as a stage carpenter at the Santa Fe Festival Theatre. In 1992, Lutz received an offer for the post of properties manager, and he eventually worked his way up to his present position as properties director, which mixes management and creative. He would be in responsible of filling the 39 staff and apprentice positions in the props department, which included hiring extra locals. Since props are so crucial to a show, Lutz frequently acted as a liaison between designers, directors, and the production teams at SFO. Lutz, a member of the Society of Properties Artisan and Managers (S*P*A*M), frequently conducted courses at regional, state, and national theater festivals and conferences. He conducted interviews with potential SFO candidates, spoke at workshops, and visited events like the annual SETC and USITT conferences.
