Richard Hoffmann Obituary, Richard Hoffmann has passed away joy anchie, August 3, 2023August 3, 2023 Richard Hoffmann Obituary, Death – Reverend Richard “Dick” Hoffmann, 87, of Stevens Point died quietly at home on July 31, 2023, under hospice care. Dick was born July 25, 1936, in Minneapolis, MN, near his family’s Faribault home. The second child of Erwin Louis and Martha Magdalene (Peters) Hoffman. Early baptism brought him into Christ’s household. He graduated as class valedictorian from Immanuel Lutheran parochial school in 1950 after eight years in Rock Island, IL. He was confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran Church by the Rev. Herman F. C. Wetzel and faithfully used the word and sacraments till his death. Dick transferred to Bethany Lutheran High School in Mankato, MN in 1953 after his senior year at Rock Island High School. After high school, he attended Concordia College in Milwaukee, WI and Concordia Senior College in Ft. Wayne, IN. After three years at Concordia Seminary in St. Louis, MO, he interned at Milwaukee Avenue Lutheran Church. His Seminary graduation and ordination were in 1962. He married Faith Elisabeth Piepkorn on June 9, 1962, and they were together for 49 years, 7 months, and 26 days. Dick was commissioned as a Chaplain (2 Lt) in the US Army Reserve in the Nebraska and Missouri National Guards in June 1962 and honorably discharged. Dick pastored Lutheran congregations in Malcolm and Pleasant Dale, NE; North St. Louis, MO; Belton and Raymore, MO; and two St. Louis County, MO congregations as vacancy pastor. He retired as a good-standing pastor in the Central States Synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. Dick immersed himself in Dimensions Living’s active community after moving to Stevens Point. Stevens Point, where he played music, wrote fitness class tunes, led book club, and lost Bingo. He played Sudoku in his free time and won the NYT Spelling Bee often. His two children, Anne Elisabeth of Stevens Point, WI and Christopher Carl of St. Louis, MO; one granddaughter, Lexie Hauskins of Decatur, IL; and a host of family and friends in Christ await the last day and eternal life.
