Atkins fought Parkinson’s disease for a long time but ultimately succumbed to it and passed away on August 1, 2023, at the age of 78, after a long and hard-fought battle. Visitation will be conducted at the Lensing Funeral & Cremation Service in Iowa City on Wednesday, August 9, 2023 from 3 to 6 PM, and the funeral service remarks will begin at 5:30 PM.
