Laughlin Obituary, Death – According to the findings of the investigation that was carried out by the Madison County Coroner Stephen P. Nonn, the person who passed away after being hit by a passenger car early this morning has been recognized as George L. Laughlin, age 36, of Granite City. The identification was made based on the findings of the inquiry. The information provided by Nonn suggests that a call to 911 was placed at approximately 1:15 a.m. on Tuesday, August 1, 2023. “It was confirmed that the victim was crossing Illinois Route 140 east of North Stanley Road in East Alton when his body was struck by an eastbound pickup truck,” Nonn said in his statement. “The intersection is located in East Alton.” “It is unknown what prompted the victim to cross Illinois Route 140,” the sentence reads. At 1:50 a.m., today’s date, Investigator Christopher Hartman from the Madison County Coroner’s Office arrived at the location and pronounced the deceased dead at the scene. The initial pieces of evidence that were acquired at the scene suggested that the deceased person had suffered blunt force trauma to the chest, abdomen, and pelvis before passing away. The testing that is considered to be standard procedure in toxicology has not yet been finished. The driver of the vehicle that impacted the person who later died did not receive a citation for their actions, and they are assisting with the investigation at this time. According to Nonn, the investigation into the matter is being carried out by the East Alton Police Department, the Illinois State Police Crash Reconstruction Division, and the Madison County Coroner’s Office.
