At 10:30 in the morning on Thursday, September 15, 2022, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Earlville, Iowa, a Christian burial service for Elsie will be held, with the Reverend Philip Agyei serving as the celebrant. Jim Steger will serve in the role of assistant to Deacon. St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Earlville, Iowa will be the location of the burial services. She was the daughter of Peter J. and Florence (Leigh) Kelchen and was born on October 30th, 1927 in the town of Dyersville, Iowa. She attended both St. Paul’s Catholic School in Worthington, Iowa and various country schools in the surrounding area for her schooling. She wed Emil Althoff on May 4, 1949 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Sand Springs, Iowa. The ceremony took place on that date. He passed away on October 31, 2019, a day before she did. Elsie was a loyal wife for more than seven decades, as well as a doting mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was an accomplished chef, baker, seamstress, gardener, and salesperson, in addition to being a lady with a wide range of other skills.
