Wes Nisker Obituary, Death, Wes Nisker Has Sadly Passed Away joy anchie, August 3, 2023 Wes Nisker Obituary, Death – ‘Scoop’ Wes Nisker was an award-winning broadcast journalist and pundit, Buddhist meditation instructor, popular book, and standup Dharma comic who was described by the New York Times as “masterful at using humor to lighten the enlightenment journey.” In the late 1960s and early 1970s, he was a regular on the San Francisco free-form radio station KSAN, where he originated the tagline, “If you don’t like the news, go out and make some of your own,” and was dubbed “Scoop” by Abbie Hoffman while reporting the Chicago Seven Trial. He was later heard on KFOG on a regular basis. In 1985, Steve Feinstein of Radio & Records said of Nisker’s work, “Nisker is the dean of FM rock radio newspeople.” He’s been creating irreverent, satirical sound collages that depict news as an ongoing drama in the theater of life since 1968, when he was a member of progressive pioneer KSAN. His work’s timing and rhythm are reminiscent of music; it’s no surprise that his newscasts have been collected on two record albums.” Nisker is the author of five critically acclaimed novels, including the timeless classic The Essential Crazy Wisdom. He was the founding co-editor of The Inquiring Mind, an international Buddhist journal, and he led retreats and seminars at Spirit Rock Meditation Center, Esalen Institute, and other locations throughout the world for many years. Nisker’s gentle heart and extraordinarily brilliant intellect pleased and inspired innumerable listeners, students, revolutionaries, and fellow seekers by weaving together Buddhist wisdom, humor, poetry, science, social and environment activism, and a cosmic viewpoint. May his memory be a blessing, and may we all go out and make our own news. Obituary
